Patterns in History: 9-11, The Beast of the Abyss and the Lion

In the few weeks since Osama Bin Laden’s death I had been very troubled by our governments disposal of his body at sea. That is until I finally prayed for Peace & Wisdom on this matter and then sat down to write an essay about a long time personal hero of mine – Known as the “Lion” of Panjshir – His name was Ahmad Shah Massoud, the America / Reagan loving Afghan comander responsible for bringing the mighty Soviet Army into submission. He was murdered by Osama Bin Laden just prior to 9-11.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14.26
As I asked the Lord for peace & wisdom – my worries seemed to have been answered. How interesting? “The Evil one” Osama Bin Laden was disposed of (with a head wound) and delivered directly to one of earths deepest ocean trench (Abyss) while “The Lion” of panjshir (one of the worlds greatest military leaders, responsible for keeping the “Evil Empire” in check) rests atop one of the tallest mountain ranges on earth! A Picture of Judeo-Christian prophecy, Heaven and Hell – played out in the Muslim world’s battle between good and evil.
How poetic, how symbolic – A Lion on the mountain top, the “evil one” at the lowest possible depth of the earth! Even the staunchest atheist may see Gods handiwork if even for a brief moment.
Revelation 17:8
“The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go to destruction. And those who dwell on the earth, whose name has not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come.
Not once in the entire book of Revelation is Satan called anything but “The Beast of the Abyss”. He is not called Satan, Lucifer, the evil one, the devil etc. etc. Through out the entire book of revelations he is simply called “The beast of the Abyss”.
The world grew dim on the morning of September 11, 2001. It got much darker for myself on 9/12 when news of an assassination attempt on Ahmad Shah Massoud on the eve of the attacks on America. The short paragraph of information allowed a glimpse of hope that Massoud may still be alive and yet I instantly understood this article buried on page nine had something to do with 9/11. Personally I was as crushed by the death of a man as the mass murders of 9/11. As George Washington was a symbol of freedom & moral courage in the face of insurmountable odds (A picture of David vs Goliath), Ahmad Shah Massoud sits as his only equal.
It was the spring of 2001, Ahmad Shah Massoud while speaking to the European Parliament stated that the fundamentalist problems in Afghanistan, namely the Taliban’s grip on control of this nation was being funded directly by Pakistan. Massoud also told of his convictions that without the support of Pakistan – Osama Bin Laden, The Taliban and the Saudi’s would not be able to sustain their military campaign against him and his “western” leaning pro democracy government.
Massoud also felt that the Afghan population was ready to rise against them.
While addressing the United States specifically – he issued a prophetic warning (A warning ASM had repeatedly given) For the U.S. to help with peace in Afghanistan it must put pressure on Pakistan to cease their funding of the Taliban, If not, the problems of Afghanistan would soon become the problems of the U.S. and the world.
Declassified Defense Intelligence Agency documents from November 2001 show that Massoud had gained “limited knowledge… regarding the intentions of [al-Qaeda] to perform a terrorist act against the US on a scale larger than the 1998 bombing of the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. These reports show Ahmad Massoud’s repeated warnings about such possible large scale attacks.
The pursuit of Freedom and Liberty unites most of humanity no matter what religion or ethnic group one comes from. Control and the selfish quest for power unfortunately unites a small percentage of humanity. Ahmad Shah Massoud fought for Freedom and Liberty. Though he did not share the same faith held by the majority of Americans, He fought and died on the side of liberty and freedom. A moderate Islam that fears God more than they fear tyrants.
Massoud died at the hands of a modern day anti-christ, aptly named by President G.W. Bush “the evil one” (a representation of the Beast)Today this arch-enemy of Massoud sits at the deepest part of our ocean floor (Abyss), While Massoud, known as the Lion of Panjshir is entombed in his beloved Afghanistan atop the highest mountains. How poetic, how symbolic – A Lion on the mountain top, the “evil one” at the lowest possible depth of the earth! Even the staunchest atheist may see Gods handiwork if just for a brief moment.
